i'm just looking for some thoughts on the kaiser m715.

i found one cheap back home (michigan). cheap enough i could almost pay cash. it's fairly rust free for being 40 years old. apparantly runs. stock everything. stock meaning d60 front, d70 rear with something like 5.87 gears and a tornado 230 I6 engine, transmission with 6.4:1 first gear and tcase with 1.96:1 low range. original 24v setup. i hear conversion to 12v is easy enough.

news from my father is he's going to sell the ol' yj when i take it home in june before i move to chicago. so i need a replacement. i'm thinking the m715 might make a good project but i also assume that parts are difficult to come by. i don't think as is it would need many upgrades to make a pretty sweet wheeling truck, but easy things like oil filters or spark plugs might be hard to find? and it would probably suck big time for a dd being a huge gas guzzler and all but i will be living in the heart of chicago so i don't really need a dd. top speed maybe 50mph.

it might be fun to buy it, get another cheap 2.5l yj for a dd and just park the kaiser for weekend fun.

maybe i wouldn't even be able to get it licensed in IL?

any thoughts are welcome...

the motor is under powered and unreliable. Worst valvetrain design EVER in a internal combustion engine.

The front 60 is closed knuckle with a odd bolt patteren. The rear 70 shafts are low spline count.

Stock they ride like a semi.

I would look locally and try to get a semi built rig and enjoy the summer with us, verses getting someting so old and unreliable. less down time more trail time...
