View Full Version : Lift question
All right guys, have a lift question.
I am in the process of my RE 4.5 inch lift. I cant do much on the axles right now, so I was putting in the brake parts. The kit comes with a braided line for the rear. It replaces the rubber line in between the steel lines on the frame, and the steel lines on the axle that run to the brake cylinders.
The braided line is only a couple of inches longer than the rubber line. Is this going to be a problem? I dont want to waste my time putting this one in if I know already that I am going to need a longer one.
thanks

I could be wrong...just guessing...do not know too much about leaf suspensions but i would think your good to go....I just dont think CJ's YJ's have the flex that TJ's do because of the the coil spring set-up verses leafs.
Like I said I could be wrong...I am sure some will chime in with the correct answer...just my guess.

You might be ok , I would wait till I got it rubber on it and was albe to test the flex just to make sure, but the lines should be ok.My TJ lines are only a few inches longer than the stock ones also.
I will go ahead and change the lines while I have it apart. Way easier to do it now, then when the silly axle is in my way. With the new lines in there, it will be easier to put in a longer one, if needed, later.
thanks for the assurance.

I too am pretty sure you'll be ok. The line is on the axle (closer to the center of the diff.) not the drum, therefore the distance when flex from axle to body is not as extreme as it is from the wheel-well to the drum. The closer you get to the center of the diff. (center-section/pumkin) equals less distance it travels. just my 2 cents.
Should be fine. My braided lines were the same way, for the rear it isnt a ton longer than stock. Like Swap said, its on the center of the axle, and it doenst see a whole lot of travel there.

I would replace them just because the oem are old and may not last very much longer.
