I am looking for ideas and opinions here. The question is, if you were to piece meal a TJ suspension for the off roading we find here in the Midwest (Cliffs, Badlands, etc.) what would you use? For instance whose arms, springs, what joints, shocks, etc. lets assume tire size is around 36"- 38" and after market axles.
Sure it is easier to just buy a kit, but that is not the point here. The point is to use the best parts available for the wheeling we find in our own back yards.

I feel the best springs/coils in my opinion would be RE... I don't like there arms/long arms... They bend to easy. Track bar would be make it yourself or buy RE's... as far as the little sutff you can buy just about anywhere, there's not much different in braided brake line..etc... I have the cayton long arms.. They don't bend.. But I would like to try TnT customs long arm set-up, the only thing about that is if you decide to do tranny or TC work you have to lower the arms..... Shocks, I must have blowed aleast one shock of every kind on the market out there... I would most likely go with RE's...

I have pretty much a full Terra Flex setup. I have their short flex arms and they are really strong and flex well. Their spings are a little on the soft side...They compress really well but the fronts sag quite a bit if you have a winch on the front...almost 2"s in my case. I have had to put in 2" spacers to even out the ride. I also have OME shocks...I don't see any benefit with them over stock. The disk brake upgrades in the rear are sweet...they hold much better than my drums when off roading and wet.

running 36 - 38 tires , I would go with a long arm set up you will be much hapier with the performance . I like the set up of the RE skid plate, have the mounts already buit in to it , you don't have to drop the whole thing to work on the tranny\ t-case. Go with a rebuildable joint. If you have the means to make your own I would do so . check out polly performance, they have some ok priced joints , Ballistic Fab also has some joints that are not bad on the wallet.

If I was going to run 38's with custom axels. I would do a triangulated four link system and stretch the wheel base out a bit.

have to agree with with diver don a triangulated four link system and stretch the wheel base would be optimal. It also will eliminate the need for the rear track bar.

If I was going to run 38's with custom axels. I would do a triangulated four link system and stretch the wheel base out a bit. I ran the Orange trail at The Badlands behind a YJ on 38's with a 4-link. There were times when I couldn't believe what I was seeing. The articulation was amazing. It wasn't finished yet, so there was no way to limit the downward link travel except shock length. That baby looked like it could lay on its side and still be wheels down.

Unfortunately this is the only picture I have of it. It was July 22of last year. Maybe someone else has pics.
