Hey Paul...this is not as personal a question as the title may imply butt, what ever happened to your rear after the funny popping noise at double bump?

Paul Paul Come up here here here

Jay, how long of a drive is it from Chgo? I'm out of vacation days, but if I left on a Friday after work and was able to camp that night, play on Saturday and part of Sunday, it might work out. I know Smirty will come with, not sure who else...

You are looking at about a 5 hr trip. We have the option of staying at my inlaws trailer and from there it is less than an hour to the pipeline. that would save setting up a camp site or there is McCaslin Mt campground where there is camp sites or cabins you can rent. Never been there but heard it was nice. Camping on the pipeline is free in the National forest. Would Labor day Weekend work? My computer is dead in the water so I am at my sisters house on her computer with DSL

Probably would be more like late September. I'm booked for Labor Day.

When you decide to work on Paul's Jeep, let me know. I assume you are going to be working on his rear axle at that time and I would like to see whats involved and lend a hand...never opened up my axles yet.

I got it home today, and it was just too hot on the driveway, so Maris and I made room in the garage and pulled it in. Now I can work in the shade and at my leisure. I love suspense, don't you?

Since it wasn't sweltering this evening I dug into my rear end. What! Do you think I'd let someone else dig into my rear? Cheeky Monkey!

And looky what I found

That's the driver's side axle shaft, twisted off clean as a whistle, right at the spines. I'm so glad I've got spares. I'll have to pull out the carrier to get to the remaining piece, but I'll save that for another night.

BTW -Who won the pool? Oh wait, I did. Listen to the vid. ;)

I finally got off my lazy butt and replaced the axle, with much help from Smirty. Thank you Scott. :D

Anders I'll get that retainer plate in the mail to you some time this week.

Hope to break it in (not break it) the weekend of Sept 7-8. Y'all come!

I was happy to help. I have never had a chance to see the inside of the diff or change out an axle before...its all that scary. Actually pretty straight forward.

I just recently ordered an Aussie locker for my D35 and picked up a pair of used shafts in case of breakage. I should be covered in the event I get in the same situation as Paul did. I now know how to tear it apart and make the necessary repairs. Thanks again Paul for showing me the ropes. :D

p.s. I could have made all kinds of comments about Pauls rear end and handling his shafts but elected not to bring this posting down...oops...I guess I did. Cheeky Monkey!!!;)
