The popular Stormin' Springfield event is back again! This is our opportunity to go to our state Capitol and show our Legislators that we are a family oriented, responsible group and that we, as other special interest groups, are entitled to enjoy our chosen form of recreation within Illinois.

Details are being worked out by the Board, but reserve this date NOW!

Please try to attend. We need your support for this event so we can keep our hobby visible in the eyes of the Legislature.

Hey TJ
In the past I have seen pics of tow rigs (RVs and such) with 4x4 in tow/trailer in town, is this something that will continue? Can you give us towing guys an alterante route into the city or is it cool just to drive through. I have driven MH into Springfield but w/o the trailer rig.

Thanks

still waiting for an answer for you missouri ... thought I'd pass on the below responce to a question which has poped up.

The point of having Stormin' Springfield -

While you are correct that the past Stormin' events have centered on obtaining public land for wheeling, this years objectives have changed. State owned land for wheeling, at the present time, is unattainable with the current Governor. That is a fact! Mr. Rod Blagojevich is about as anti-recreation as we can get. Virtually every bill put on his desk that had a positive impact on motorized recreation was Vetoed. Fortunately, we have legislators in this state that don't see eye to eye with the Governor and have overturned some of his vetoes. One example of this would be changing the allocation of funds in the recreational trails fund from 60% to 92% going towards motorized recreation. While this doesn't directly affect us at the present time, it could in the future. Some of the bills being worked on that do have an impact on us are
1) allowing the DNR to use funds from the Recreational Trails Fund for creating trails on DNR managed land.
2) Fixing the landowner liability law that was overturned by the Supreme Court. At the present time, liability is high for landowners that let people use their land for recreation. The old law that limited their liability is no longer in effect. These are just two examples of numerous others that we must show our support for as a group. We currently have two people involved with ILFWDA that look for and follow upcoming bills that affect us.

We simply cannot ignore Springfield.

Another point of having Stormin' is to bring some unity among Four Wheelers within our state. To be effective in any endeavors that pertain to dealing with the state, we must show unity and have a strong voice for the Four Wheel Drive community within our state. This cannot happen if people keep acting as individuals and not as part of a group. As the old saying goes, "There is strength in numbers!" By being united and having strong member backing, we can have a say in what happens to the bills that impact us. We can only provide a means for this to happen. The rest is up to the people that enjoy using their vehicles off-road. This event is for anyone who has an interest in off-roading. You do not have to be a member of ILFWDA to join us for this event, but we hope that it will show non-members the need to be united.

I hope we can count on your support and attendance for Stormin' Springfield on April 8, 2005. We ask that everyone RSVP for this event on our website at www.ilfwda.org. For those people that do RSVP, you will receive a free t-shirt for attending. If you do not RSVP, we cannot guarantee that there will be enough shirts to go around. Another reason for the RSVP is to get a head count for the party afterwards, so please do!

so you want to let our legislators know about your club?

2005 Storming Springfield Storyboards Guidelines

Thank you for supporting this event!!

Each club should have a storyboard that tells something about your organization. As you assemble these, consider:

1) Our hobby focuses on RESPONSIBLE and family oriented use of OHV areas. Please make sure that ABSOLUTELY NONE of your pictures show anyone wheelin in an unsafe or destructive manner. Everything should be following Tread Lightly! guidelines. Please no pictures of rooster tails, pyramids, catching air, or tearing up vegetation. You should consider limiting
showing any water crossings unless it is inherently clear that the crossing is designated trail (crossings only, NO pictures of driving down streams).

2) Make the displays eye catching for legislators. For best impact, they should look like they were put together in a sincere manner by amateurs and not slick fast talkers with fancy displays.

3) Focus on pictures and graphical formats. You don’t need lots of text. You should have some basic information about your club; like your focus, what you are involved in, etc. Feel free to bring club banners, brochures, and the like as long as they fit on a six foot table. Small TVs and videos are fine as well, just please make sure all footage shows responsible wheeling even if on private land, (shouldn’t have footage of full throttle blasts).

4) Feel free to use the materials you would like to use. It must fit on the table. Most clubs use tri-fold storyboards you can get at any department store for around a dollar or so. Poster boards are fine as well. Don’t double stack on height.

5) Consider some themes that could show how our hobby impacts local business, or the environment (clean up runs), or serves in charitable activities.

6) The club with the best display will receive 5 Club of the Year points.

Rules for storyboards:

1) Everything must fit on one six foot long table. Don’t double stack the height on the boards. You cannot have anything touch the wall and you cannot block the way through the corridor.

2) Show our hobby is a family oriented, responsible manner.

3) Cannot promote any business. This even includes having a business name in a title or description. Cannot have any fliers or promotional materials for a business.

Logistics:

1) Club members that are going to be setting up the displays will need to be at the Fairgrounds by 8:00am sharp. This way you can pick up your event packets, shirts, sign in, and etc, leaving enough time to get to the capitol and get setup.

2) Please be sure to clean off all the table from the tables during tear down.

3) If you cannot make it to the event, please email Rob Simons at rws3512000@yahoo.com or Stacy Barlow at cj5chick@sbcglobal.net and we can make arrangements to get your club information set up.

Please feel free to pass this one to anyone/group that may be attending Storming Springfield!

Thank you!
Rob Simons
