View Full Version : Anyone up for a Mid-January Run?

Anyone up for a Mid-January Run? My rig should be done by Jan 8 and I need to get it (and me) out on the trails. The Badlands would be cool, but The Cliffs would do as well. The choice might depend on participant preference and the weather (TSL's don't like snowy or icy roads).

If we do The Badlands, I'd like to go out the night before and sleep over. The Attica Inn will allow four in a room and gives discounts to park users.

Waddya think?

I would love to go but if it is later like around the 21 I may be out of town for work. I was actually hoping to go next weekend, maybe the 13th or so. I will have to head out somewhere that weekend because I have the new axles in the cj and now I will hopefully not be snapping shaft joints :D , but I am desparitly in need of a jeep fix  .

missouri and I are doing motor mounts on my junk Saturday and we have a meeting Sunday, so no for the two of us. I'm hitting The Badlands on the 21rst, but it sounds like you won't be in town for that. :(

I'll know how ready the beast is by Saturday night, and I'll post up again after that.

I'm ready to wheel, so the plan is Sunday Jan 21 at The Badlands. I want to see who's going so we can plan what we're gonna do. I know 78CJ7 and I would like something somewhat difficult to try out some new equipment, (altho there is Rockface in The Creek as well as The Quarry), and missouri is stock and what's to try out something drier, (like White, now that I've found it, it's like green, but without the mud). I'd like to see the Lemonhead clan come coz they've never been there and the Misses is stock and likes it dry.

SO, post up and let's see what we can get going.

We're going to meet at Badland's lower parking lot by The Hideout (burger stand) around 10:00 AM (eastern time). If you don't see us, try to raise us on channel 4 or 14 on CB. missouri and I are meeting at the OHare Oasis on I-294 South at 6:00 AM, so if you want to tag along on the way down, you can find us there.

FYI:

This is an open run NOT a TIJA sanctioned event thereby TIJA assumes no liability for injury or vehicular damage - you run at your own risk
THESE (http://tija.org/active_forums/showpost.php?p=5680&postcount=1) trail requirements will apply - I'm checking and if you don't pass inspection you can't run with us

At this point it looks like The Three Amigos. Brian, will you be OK with the level of difficulty? We can always hit the quarry and you can do Purgatory.

Paul I am fine with whatever we run, I am just running a shakedown anyway so a variety would be good.

If you guys want to go on Pink in the afternoon, I would be inclined to right seat with one of you. I think it would be fun to go on the hard stuff without worrying damaging my Daily Driver. We can play it by ear but I am game to going on pink with one of you.

I still want to drive on Orange though.

Works for me. Don't know if I'll have a rider at this point but it's looking doubtful. How about you Brian?

Had a great time at the Badlands. It was a good group to wheel with. Of course Ranger Paul was there along with Cooter, Flip Flop, 78CJ7 and myself. Here are a few pics I took. I know others had pics as well and will hopefully post up soon.

Thanks, I had just finished putting my scout axles under it and slapping the boggers on as well:D . Over all the jeep did really well, pics just don't do it justice of how well it was breaking through the 4" ice. I did however discover that the stock axle location for the rear brake line union will not survive the rocks and it must be moved higher especially with the pinion rotated up like mine is. I had front discs only through the last 1/4 of the trail  and in the pic you mentioned as well but hey I was out to wheel as long as it would hold up;) , I can always wrench in the garage afterwards right:rolleyes: .
